I was born and raised in Kansas and spent most of my childhood living in farming communities. However, instead of farming, I found an interest in science and technology. I can remember at the age of 11 making an AM radio from an electronic project kit given to me by my grandfather. At age 12, my father bought a TI-99 and thus my passion for programming soon followed.

I continued programming as a hobby throughout high school while maintaining an active interest in science, technology, and math. After high school, I attended the University of Kansas and studied Mechanical Engineering. I graduated in 2007 and have pursued many other interests, in addition to engineering such as programming, website development, podcasting, DIY projects, and photography.
Mechanical Engineer Learn More...
MeI studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kansas and graduated in 2007 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. During my time as a student I worked for the school part-time and was an active member of the student chapter of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Outside of classes, I wrote MATLAB applications or used CAD (ProE or SolidWorks) to design my next project.

After graduation, I worked for a small consulting company that specializes in Computer Aided Engineering (CAE). At this company, I spent 3 years using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to analyze large mechanical structures, pressure vessels, and vehicles. In addition to FEA, I have used my skills as a MATLAB programmer to develop complex scripts and applications.
MATLAB Application developer Learn More...
MeSince the age of 12, I have been programming in a BASIC type language. In 2002, while studying Mechanical Engineering I was introduced to MATLAB. MATLAB and companion toolboxes provide engineers, scientists, mathematicians, and educators with an environment for technical computing applications. While in school, I coded hundreds of scripts and applications in an effort to become efficient with the software.

Professionally, I spent 3 years working as the lead MATLAB applications developer for a small consulting company. I wrote over 30 scripts and 5 complex applications. Most applications were custom built specific for each project. This allowed me to grow as a developer and gain a diverse amount of experience. Throughout my career I have built MATLAB applications for many purposes. I few of these include making a process more efficient, provide visualization for calculated results, or obtain data from sensory equipment.
Website developer Learn More...
About Webdev In early 2008 I found an interest in designing and developing websites. I quickly picked up html and css and immediately started playing with website design. By the end of the year I had started to work with PHP, Javascript, AJAX, MySQL, and a few other website development languages and technologies.

Up until 2009 I constructed websites for my personal use. Since then I have created websites for a few local companies, a social organization, and the University of Kansas.

I focus on designing clean and fairly minimalistic layouts, intuitive UIs and navigation, and striving for elegant code.
Builder Learn More...
About Builder I have a passion for designing and building and consider myself the Do It Yourself (DIY) type. If something breaks or needs to be built, I find this to be a great opportunity to use some problem solving and ingenuity to design and build a solution.

While in college, I spent every year thinking of new projects that resulted in a design and subsequent fabrication in the University Machine Shop. During my sophomore year, I was employed by the machine shop and thus further increased my experience as a builder.
Podcaster
About Podcaster In 2007 I discovered podcasts. Podcasts are similiar to radio and tv shows but generally have much smaller budgets. There are thousands of podcasts for almost anything from bow hunting to knitting. Why are there so many shows? The Internet makes it very easy for anyone with a microphone or video camera to produce and publish a show to a large audience.

I have always enjoyed the genuine nature of podcasts. The host(s) seem real and approachable. In fact, I have contacted several and all have either responded vie email or on the show itself. In 2009, I decided to start producing my own shows.

Currently, I have only one show in production. It is a weekly audio program hosted by Jared Wirth and myself. We discuss science, technology, history, and more. The show is called 58% Geek and is available on iTunes.
